Uzo Aduba (Teaching Artist)

is currently starring as Anna Monroe in Venice at the Kansas City Rep. Uzo made her Broadway debut as Toby in Coram Boy. Her Off-Broadway credits includes Amphiarus in The Seven (New York Theater Workshop) and 365/365 (The Public Theater). Other New York theater includes Kia in Love According to Luc (Greenwich St. Theatre), Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet (Pulse Ensemble), Lorraine in Passin’(Afrikan Women’s Rep). Her regional theater credits include the title role in Dessa Rose (New Repertory Theatre, IRNE nomination), Helena in Eclipsed (Woolly Mammoth Theatre), Hannah/Rose in A Civil War Christmas (The Huntington Theatre, IRNE nomination), Godspell (Papermill Playhouse & MUNY), The Spirit in Translations of Xhosa (Olney Theatre, Helen Hayes nomination), Sheila’s Day (Crossroads Theatre Company), Amphiarus in The Seven (La Jolla Playhouse), Yolanda in Crowns (Denver Center) and Trembling Sally in Abyssinia (Goodspeed). Her theater and film credits include Notes and Over There. She has been a featured vocalist at The White House and at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Uzo is a graduate of Boston University.

 

Jen Bender (Artistic Director)

served as Resident Director of Broadway's The Lion King, and Assistant Director of Avenue Q (Broadway and Las Vegas), The Wedding Singer and the revival of Steel Magnolias. Her directing credits also include numerous new works, readings and concerts at the Skirball Center, The Metropolitan Room, Hudson Theatre, Birdland and Ars Nova. She has taught theatre students of all ages at The Broadway Experience, Camp Broadway, The Artist's Crossing, and the BFA program at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. She is a producer of the New Voices Collective concert series and one of the founders of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Sean Bradford (Executive Director)

originated the role of Ozzie Powell/Ruby Bates in Kander and Ebb’s The Scottsboro Boys and is also featured on the show’s original cast recording. He made his Broadway debut of Disney's The Lion King as a Simba understudy after graduating from Northwestern University. Other credits include The Yellow Wood directed by B.D. Wong, Was directed by Tina Landau and CBS's "My Broadway Debut." As a vocalist, he has performed throughout the United States, including New York City’s Jazz @ Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Joe’s Pub. www.sean-bradford.com.

 

Lilli Cooper (Teaching Artist)

made her Broadway debut in the original cast of Spring Awakening at the age of 16. After graduating from LaGuardia Arts High School in New York, she moved on to Vassar College where she is currently finishing up her senior year as a film major. She recently returned home from a year abroad at the Prague Film School where she focused in screenwriting and graduated with honors. She has performed on “The View”, “Good Morning America”, “The American Theater Wing’s Tony Awards” and at various venues in New York City including Birdland, Symphony Space, Joe’s Pub and Rockwood Music Hall. Recent projects include a concert series with her two big brothers; The Cooper Clan: Up Till Now and Back Together. She can soon be seen as the lead in The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder at The Martel Theater at Vassar College.

 

Ben Gettinger (Teaching Artist)

Graduated from The Boston Conservatory in 2004 with a BFA in theater and wen't on to play the role of Pepper in the Broadway production of Mamma Mia for five years. He can be seen in the feature film Across the Universe directed by Julie Taymor and is the Co-creator of the mockumentary web series Thank You...Next.

 

Frankie James Grande (Special Events Coordinator)

graduated with a triple major, Biology/Theatre/Dance, from Muhlenberg College in 2005, and then toured the country in the Equity production of Dora the Explorer Live! (Boots the Monkey) before returning to NYC to make his Broadway debut in Mamma Mia! (ensemble, Eddie u/s). Recently, he started his own production company, “Grande Productions, Inc.,” as has produced Hamlet on Broadway starring Jude Law as well as La Bete, currently playing on Broadway at The Music Box Theatre. Frankie is a founding member of Broadway in South Africa. In 2007, Frankie earned the title of "Mr. Broadway."

 

Jon-Erik Goldberg (Operations Manager)

Jon-Erik’s Broadway credits include Mamma Mia! (original cast) and Cats (final cast). His international credits include West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera. His regional theater credits include As Thousands Cheer and Phantom of the Opera.

 

Adam Kantor (Director of Development)

Immediately after graduating from Northwestern University, Adam made his Broadway debut as Mark Cohen in the closing cast of RENT, the final performance of which can be seen on the Sony DVD “Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway.” He recently jumped into another Pulitzer Prize-winning musical on Broadway, Next To Normal, covering the role of Henry. He guest starred in an episode of The Good Wife in the role of “Ezra.” His Off-Broadway credits include Falling for Eve at The York and Killing Women at Theatre Row.

 

Morgan Karr (Teaching Artist)

is a singer, songwriter and performer hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, who is quickly making his mark on the New York City entertainment scene. Before graduating from Northwestern University in 2009, he joined the cast of the groundbreaking pop musical “Spring Awakening” on Broadway. In 2010 he won first place at the legendary “Amateur Night At The Apollo” in Harlem, and soon after, he began performing his original music to sold-out audiences including infamous music venues like Joe’s Pub, The Bitter End and Rockwood Music Hall. On May 11th, 2011, Morgan released his debut, self-titled, three-song EP co-produced by Grammy-nominated Producer Juan Patiño (Lisa Loeb's "Stay"), Cliff Goldmacher (Jane Monheit, Spencer Day), and Kevin Fisher (Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans). His music sits at an intersection of genres including pop, soul, rock and country which many affectionately characterize as “too theater to be pop, and too pop to be theater.” www.MorganKarr.com

 

Chelsea Krombach (Teaching Artist)

Chelsea Krombach made her Broadway debut in WICKED as understudy for Elphaba, the wicked witch. She also appeared in the recent Broadway revival of PROMISES, PROMISES, starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth. Prior to her Broadway run in WICKED, she was part of the first national touring cast, in which she understudied Nessarose. Her regional credits include: AIDA at Music Theatre of Wichita (Amneris), JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH at Goodspeed (Ladybug), GODSPELL at St. Louis Muny, EDGES by Pasek and Paul (Original Cast Recording – Woman One). Chelsea sang back-up vocals for Kristin Chenoweth’s New Year’s Eve concert at the Walt Disney Hall in LA, and will continue on with Ms. Chenoweth in her international album release tour this summer. Also upcoming, Chelsea will be playing Philia in A FUNNY THING…FORUM at Papermill Playhouse.

 

Tracy McDowell (Education Coordinator)

is best known for her work in RENT on Broadway, the national tour (Maureen) and Japan (Mrs. Cohen). Tracy was in the closing cast of Rent on Broadway, and on the live DVD recording. Her work Off Broadway includes Repo the Genetic Rock Opera. She played Alice in the world premiere of Take Two at Northern stage in VT, the “Day by Day” soloist in Godspell at the MUNY St. Louis, and is currently working on the new musical Jawbreaker as Courtney and Born Blue directed by Anthony Rapp. Tracy is a proud founding member of Broadway in South Africa.

 

Courtney Reed (Secretariat)

is currently performing in In The Heights as Carla and understudy to Vanessa and Nina. She received her BFA from The Theatre Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. After graduation she was cast in Mamma Mia! (ensemble, Ali & Lisa u/s), where she made her Broadway debut. Chicago credits: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, 110 in the Shade & South Pacific. She can also be seen in a number of commercials and most recently in "Crime Fiction," now on DVD. She is so thankful and appreciative of her family and friends for making her the happiest girl in the world!

 

Jared Stein (Musical Supervisor)

currently serves as Associate Music Director of American Idiot. Recently, he was the Music Director and Conductor for the First National Tour of Spring Awakening. Prior to that, he conducted the Broadway National Tour of Rent. Other music direction credits include A New Brain, The Who's Tommy, Serenade, Urinetown and Children of Eden. He has recorded with Lauren Molina ("doo- be-doo"), David Reiser ("A Storyteller's Ball") and Declan Bennett ("An Innocent Evening of Drinking" and "The LoFish Sessions"), with whom he continues to play. Jared holds a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He is thrilled and honored to be a part of Broadway in South Africa.

 

Christopher Spaulding (Corporate and Public Relations)

made his Broadway debut in the cast of Kander and Ebb’s Curtains and was also featured in the original NYC cast of Rock of Ages at New World Stages. Additional credits include principal roles in Disney’s High School Musical One and Two, Godspell, Footloose, Sweeney Todd and television appearances on the Tony Awards and the 81st Annual Awards. He is the founder and executive director for Broadway Showchoir Connect.

 

Adam Wachter (Music Director)

recently completed runs of two a cappella musicals Off-Broadway, In Transit and Perfect Harmony. Other New York credits include: Yank!, Last Dance, Perez Hilton Saves the Universe, and the Actors' Fund benefit Chance and Chemistry: A Centennial Celebration of Frank Loesser, featuring Paul McCartney. He conducted and played keyboards on the national tour of Happy Days, the Musical, and has music directed at regional theaters across the country, including Barrington Stage, Weston Playhouse, North Shore Music Theater, and Theatre-by-the-Sea. Adam has music directed several concerts and cabarets in New York, including shows for Glee's Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, Stephanie Block, Andrew and Celia Keenan-Bolger, and American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle. His music direction, orchestrating, and original compositions are also featured in the online series "The Battery's Down" and "Submissions Only," both of which he is Music Supervisor for. Lisa Nicole Wilkerson (Communications Director)

made her Broadway debut in The Lion King (Nala u/s, Shenzi u/s). Her national tours include Mamma Mia! (Ali) and The Lion King (Nala). Regionally, Lisa has performed as Lily in Abyssinia (Goodspeed, North Shore), TiMoune in Once On This Island (Gallery Players), Robin in Godspell (St. Louis Black Rep), and ensemble in River Deep: Tribute to Tina Turner (Playwrights Horizons), Play On! (Arena Stage, Goodman, Seattle Rep), and Purlie (City Center ENCORES!, Pasadena Playhouse) starring Blaire Underwood and Loretta Devine, respectively. Her TV and film credits include The Tony Awards 2008, The Today Show, Oprah, Jay Leno, and Unconditional Love. A native of St. Louis, MO, Lisa earned her B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University. Lisa is a founding member of Broadway in South Africa.

Jen Bender

Lilli Cooper

Is thrilled to be a part of Broadway in South Africa. She was in the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening and now attends Vassar College where she studies film. Born and raised in NYC, Lilli has performed in numerous benefit concerts at venues such as Joe's Pub, Laurie Beechman Theater, and Birdland. Other Credits include Godspell, Hair, Crazy Head Space, and the upcoming original play Haarlem Berlin at Vassar College.

Ariana Grande

currently appears as Cat on the hit Nickelodeon series VicTORIous. On Broadway, she originated the role of Charlotte (u/s Patrice) in Jason Robert Brown’s musical 13. As a vocalist, she has performed with the Boca Raton Philharmonic and the Sunshine Pops Orchestra, and concerts benefitting the St. Jude’s Charity and the Rally for Darfur. She has also appeared on the tv series Brain Surge (Nickelodeon) and as herself on news station PIX 11.

Zach Bandler

is Co-Executive Director and co-founder of Broadway in South Africa. He has traveled to Cape Town twice before on arts outreach and was the 2006 Artistic Director and co-founder of The Cape Town Project while at Northwestern University (which serves as the initial model for this professional incarnation). Credits include: recent tour of the new Les Misérables, Romeo and Juliet at Lincoln Center (with NYPhilharmonic), and The Most Happy Fella (Ravinia Festival). B.S. cum laude in Theatre/Music Theatre (Northwestern University).

Steven Cutts

is currently in the Broadway Company of Hairspray (Seaweed u/s). Recent credits include the 1st National Touring Co. of Hairspray, Mister; a new musical starring Anthony Rapp, and the movie CAMP (Shaun). After attending the Boston Conservatory for Theatre, he spent two years teaching theatre at an elementary school in inner-city St. Louis, MO. Steven is thrilled to visit South Africa for the first time as part of this exciting project!

Rachel Frankenthal

is currently in the National touring company of Mamma Mia. Other credits include: Happy Days at the Goodspeed Opera House, Maccabeat! (NYMF), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Broadway in Chicago), Grease (Marriott Lincolnshire), and Andrew Lippa's Asphalt Beach (World Premiere). Rachel is an associate choreographer for the TheatreworksUSA production of Junie B. Jones and is a co-creator/choreographer for Tap That!, a show that premiered at Northwestern University. A founding member of this project, this is Rachel's third trip to South Africa.

Asmeret Ghebremichael

Broadway: Legally Blonde (Pilar), Spamalot (Lady of the Lake cover), Wicked, Footloose. Off Broadway: In the Heights(Drama Desk Award), LoneStar Love. National tour: Aida (Nehebka). Regional: The Little Princess, Finian's Rainbow, The Wiz. Film/TV: Confessions of a Shopaholic, Legally Blonde(MTV), The Drummer, Red Hook. Asmeret has a B.S. in Communications from New York University, where she was Valedictory Speaker of her graduating class.

Zachary Zirlin

is a scenic designer/graphic artist for theatre, film and television. Some of Zach's credits as a graphic artist include the upcoming Everybody's Fine, Ridley Scott's House of Lies, Bride Wars, 2008 Olympics, as well as Spiderman 3, Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut, Synecdoche, New York, Across the Universe, and Darjeeling Limited. Zach has done design work for theatres in New York, Chicago, Florida, and Alaska. He has also worked as an assistant designer on several tours, international and national, and Broadway shows. Zach is a graduate of New York University.
